Craigslist dresser turned baby changing table

Once again, sorry for the bad pictures, I'm working on it I promise! last year, when I found out that I was having another baby girl, I knew right away that I was going to need more dresser room, the one girl I had was maxing out the closet and her one small dresser, the room was crowded though because I also had a changing table set up. So, I decided to combine dresser space with the changing table, and this is what I came up with.

Here is the dresser as it looked when I found it on craigslist. Scored for $20. I sanded it down, and brushed on a few coats of Glidden's silver Birtch paint in an eggshell finish that I got free from their last give away. Added new pulls that I had lying around plus two cup pulls from The Knob Shop on Ebay. And, Voila!

I also repainted Brooklyn's only dresser with a teal stripe so each of them could have a dresser, and later I added a terry covered changing pad to the wide dresser to make it a dresser/changer in one!

I aslo make this DIY framed scrapbook art by painting goodwill frame and tracing a simple google image searched bird.

The Chandelier I got as a gift from my Mom.

So here is my new Changing station! one of the top drawers conveniently holds diapers and wipes!

Meet the Girls

For those of you who may not know, I am Mommy to two beautiful little girls. <3 Brooklyn, age 2 2 1/2 and Laina, 5 months. Here are a few pictures from their most recent photo shoot with Aunt Lindsey of Pierce Photography. You can also find more from her on her Facebook Page, including my maternity pictures.

Painted Kitchen Cabinets

This was my kitchen last summer, sorry for the cruddy cell phone pics btw, my camera died on me and I have yet to get it replaced. I also apologize that I do not have the whole step by step process, I took on this feat while 8 months pregnant and with a 2 year old under my feet, i'm still amazed that I got it done!

Here is my newly painted kitchen. I absolutely love it. So much better than the oak, in my humble opinion! My sister is planning on painting hers also in the next month or so to come so I will feature a more in depth step by step of her transformation!   See more after pics HERE

Supplies used:

Behr Ultra White Semi Gloss Paint

Combination of about 4 coats brush/mini roller and Spray paint in an attempt to minimize brush strokes (this was my biggest problem!)

Knobs and pulls from The Knob Shop on ebay.

How i did it in a nutshell:

I wiped down with light soap and water let dry
removed hardware
removed doors and drawers. (complete drawers, not drawer fronts)
primed with brush with kilz primer
Painted 2 coats by brush
3rd coat with mini roller on areas that i could roll on
did touch ups with regular spray paint where i couldn't get rid of the brush strokes
let dry overnight at least between each coat.
It was a leaning process, i would probably even suggest doing more coats just for extra coverage and durability.

DIY Headboard

This was some what of a seat of my pants project. I basically decided to make it on a whim, and with no real plan besides a rough idea of what I wanted it to look like I set of to Menards for some building supplies!

I ended up with some very cheap skinny long trim pieces and one flat ply board piece. In hindsight, the ply board was not the best choice because it tends to warp, but nailing the straighter trim pieces on to the sides and top helped to straighten it up a bit, enough so that I could make it work. I cut my pieces after a taking a few measurments. (also in hindsight I've decided i should have gone bigger) slapped it together with some trim nails.

Then I did 2 coats of stain. I used Minwax Dark Maple. and about 3 coats of polyurethane. It took days to dry in between instead of hours like the cans indicate.

Next I simply set it over my existing (very small) headboard, resting on the bed frame. it seemed to fit snugly enough just like that so thats how I left it!

Then a bedding change and I was done! (except for my white dresser I still need to find)
Here is a run down of the room:

DIY headboard - $15 for wood/stain and poly and foam brushes already had

Shabby Chic Bed skirt from Target - $19 on Ebay

White down alt. comforter - $29 Target

Brown Throw blanket - $3 at Meijer outlet

Side Tables - $39 each on sale at BB&B

Lamps - Christmas gift

Starburst mirror - $10 Family Dollar find

Starting Over Again

After a rather long gap since my last post ( I seemed to have the same problem while writing in my diary as a kid) spring has inspired me to attempt keeping up on my blog again! I am determined to post slightly more regularly now, I have lots of spring projects that I am looking forward to sharing with you all.

Id like to start now with a few things off my current want list for the year:

1. Galveston Sectional from Furniture Row I am longing for a leather couch and came across
this one recently while wishlist shopping online and Fell In Love!

2. Ikea Knubbig Table Lamp I like this little guy because its girly yet modern, I think it will look very nice on my new bedroom dresser....which brings me to my next item....

3. New White Dresser. Preferably a refinished Craigslist find so its unique....i just have to find the right one...

so thats what I am dreaming of right now....
