I have been wanting a wide TV stand to go in our bacement living room for when we finish it. the bacement is still a work in progress so I wasnt expecting to get anything too soon, but while out garage saling one day I stumbled upon this.
It was missing one knob and the wood was scratched and a chunk was missing on the bottom left hand corner, but it was the exact shape and size I wanted. It was marked $20 but I offered them $10 and they accepted!
and so my project began.
I started out by removing all hardware and doors and sanding by hand using regular sand paper. After everything was sanded down well enough, or so I thought, I wipped it down with a damp cloth. Using foam brushes I applied 3 coats of Minwax Dark Maple wood stain, letting it dry overnight in between coats. then once the last coat was dry, I applied one coat of Clearcoat poly to the whole piece and 2 coats to the top. Lastly, I added new brushed silver knobs and here is the fininshed product:
In the second picture you can see the little bit of streaky-ness in the stain because I didnt sand the front panel delails as well as I should have I think so the stain didnt soak up as evenly, but its even less noticable in person.
So here is the breakdown of the cost:
Stand - $10
Stain - $4
Foam Brushes - $1.99
Poly - Borrowed from Lindsy
Knobs - Already had
Total: $15.99
